Machine Features – The Really Short List

Eccentric Overload Training

Electric Weight® delivers true eccentric overload training (both “resistive” and “assisted”).

Superior Nordic Glute-Ham Training

The definitive exercise for posterior chain development.  Use for strength, injury prevention (ACL, Achilles), and rehabilitation.

“Standard” or “Continuous” Resistances

“Standard” mode has concentric, eccentric, and isometric resistances all constant (with different settings).  “Continuous” mode is like a programmable bungee cord that includes an eccentric overload function.

Dimensions and Power

The stand-alone machine is 23″ wide, 14.5″ deep, and (bolted to the floor) is 71.5″ tall.  Standard configuration is 120VAC (standard US household); alternate configuration is 240VAC.

Includes

Basic model is the machine, touch-screen monitor, power and connection cables, and mounting stand.  Current options include exercise platform and cables, Nordic Glute-Ham package, swivel cable head, UPS, power cage, and “Assist” package (all sold separately; inquire for details).

Install & Use

Electric weight® can be bolted to the floor or mounted on the included stand (with or without a platform attached).  User guides describe the various User Interfaces and on-site training is available.

Biology

What causes your muscles to grow?

Muscle Fiber DiagramInside your muscles are, among other things, lots of microscopic fibers.  As muscles contract and their length shortens, these fibers slide against each other.  Many people don’t know that these fibers are barbed, which is why you can hold (isometric) or lower (eccentric) much more weight than you can lift (concentric – the weakest part of a motion).  The secret to growing or strengthening muscle is taking advantage of this bit of biology.  Big muscle gains (strength and/or size) can be realized by increasing the load of a muscle that is lengthening under tension (an eccentric overload).  This overload creates the microscopic muscular damage required to promote protein synthesis and generate (new) strength/muscle growth.

Technology

Bridging the gap between eccentric overload training theory, and it’s application

Electric Weight® generates resistance using motors driven by unique electronic circuitry.  This allows instant and repetitive resistance adjustments, thereby delivering all combinations of concentric and eccentric loading. Performing exercises incorporating properly timed eccentric overloads yields prolonged strength gains and helps overcome performance plateaus. This is how people get stronger. Maximizing the eccentric overload reduces the training time required to achieve the desired strength gains. This is how people get stronger faster. Eccentric overload training has many, many more benefits than just getting strong, including reduced injury susceptibility, fast and complete rehabilitation of injured athletes, and in some cases rehabilitation where traditional rehabilitation efforts have failed. Furthermore, studies prove that eccentric overload training is an essential part of fitness training for the ageing population.

About

Electric Weight® is an electronic resistance mechanism that delivers consistent, adjustable, resistance regardless of cable motion (inward or outward).  Workouts are loaded into various Graphical User Interfaces, and exercise parameters are set or modified via an attached touch screen monitor.  Currently there are two versions of Electric Weight®, both targeting high end strength and conditioning, and physical therapy.  Other versions are in development.
